Good girls don't talk about that! A conversation about Menstrual Cups & Mama Cloth.

Shortly after becoming pregnant with our fourth child,  Miss A. I saw a good friend and fellow micro-preemie mom using cloth diapers.

I honestly had no idea that people still used cloth diapers. All I saw on television was Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs. I used disposables on my three sons. I thought cloth diapering was something my Grandmother did because they didn't have Pampers.

I've been cloth diapering for 18 months. I love it. It's saved our family a tremendous amount of money. It also opened my eyes to a whole new world. The world of Reusable menstrual products, otherwise known as RUMP's. RUMP's are menstrual cups and reusable menstrual pads also known as mama cloth.

A menstrual cup is a medical grade silicone cup that sits inside the vagina and collects the blood from our menses. On a heavy day I may have to empty my menstrual cup up to four times. On a light day I may only change it twice. In the morning and again at bed time. A menstrual cup does take a little time to learn to use without leaks. When I first got mine I dropped it into the toilet more than once. I recommend a back up cup, so you can properly clean your cup if you have a slippery finger incident.

Reusable menstrual pads aka Mama Cloth have no learning curve. If you have been using pads you can immediately start using Mama Cloth without any problems. In fact you may feel liberated as I did that there is no sticky stuff in your underpants pulling out your pubic hair. Mama cloth isn't hot or plastic feeling, it's natural and soft. The only issue you may have is with a little bit of sliding in your underpants which is easily remedied with snugger fitting panties. Mama cloth is usually secured with wings and a Kam snap, so sliding can happen.

The next question most people have about mama cloth is how do I clean it. Let's not make this complicated. Rinse the pads with cold water. Then launder as usual or hand wash. Some people choose to do the shower stomp. This is when you put your pads in the bottom of the shower when you take your shower and you let them rinse by the drain and occasionally step on them to get your blood out of the pads. I'll be honest, I have kids, they peak in the shower. I do not do the shower stomp because the last time I did they thought I was severely injured in the shower and completely freaked out. I have a diaper sprayer, I just spray my mama cloth with it. It's easy peasy.

Recently, I found that I didn't have enough night time or heavy flow pad's in my mama cloth stash.
I've had very little time to craft lately. I actually have a pile of things to fix, sew, make, do, on top of all of my other lists of things to do. In the past I made my own mama cloth out of cloth diaper making supplies. If you can use a sewing machine or even hand sew well you can make your own mama cloth. There are many free patterns out on the internet. I made my own pattern by tracing an Always pad that I liked.

Since I needed the pads ASAP as my period was due any day I took my hunt to Amazon. I had previously purchased some pads on Amazon, so I knew I could get them quickly and if I didn't care for them I could easily return them.

I purchased the Love My (TM) Antibacterial Bamboo fiber Mama Cloth/ Menstrual Pads/ Reusable/ Panty Liners - 6pcs for $19.98.

The cheetah print mama cloth is the Luv My and the right is by Bububibi. The Luv My mama cloth has a minky PUL (feels like soft velvet) fabric with cotton bamboo for the absorbent part of the pad. The Bububibi pad has the same cotton bamboo for absorbancy but it has PUL for the outer fabric. PUL is a moisture resistant fabric often used in cloth diaper making.

The First Post

This is my first blog post ever that is associated with my name. I hope I won't come to regret it.

I'm having a lot of fun lately with my writing and Amazon reviewing. I want to share it all in one place.

This is the place.

I will be posting my Amazon reviews, my thoughts on life, anything that strikes my fancy.

I'm going to be real and I'm going to be me.

If you don't like it - Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.
